The Case for Skipping Morning Cleansing

The Case for Skipping Morning Cleansing

Here’s a secret…I don’t wash my face in the morning.

What?

Yes, you read that right.

Here’s why.

Overnight, our skin restores its natural barrier, and cleansing in the morning might strip these beneficial oils. However, if you have oily or acne-prone skin, excess sebum can accumulate overnight, leading to clogged pores. Sweaters, side sleepers, and heavy nighttime skincare users might need to wash in the morning too, to wash off bacteria and to ensure your pores stay clear.

So what do I do?

I start my morning skincare routine with a toner. I’m currently reaching for Kiehl’s Daily Refining Milk-Peel Toner or Ren Skincare’s Ready Steady Glow AHA Lotion Tonic. Each product gently exfoliates the skin’s surface without causing irritation—giving me a brighter glow!

Other alternatives to a full morning cleanse include splashing with water, using a micellar water, or a hydrating mist.

Skincare is personal—what works for one may not work for another. Experiment with your routine and listen to your skin!

Let me know in the comments. Do you wash your face in the morning?
