Should I tip my laser hair removal technician?
I have read so many articles about tipping etiquette on services, like laser hair removal and facials, that left me more confused than when I started googling. Some articles say, “tips aren’t expected, but they are appreciated.” Well, duh…who wouldn’t want extra money? Other articles say, “tipping the standard 15% - 20% is appropriate,” while others recommend asking staff about their tipping policy which I just find a bit bizarre. To make it even more confusing, discounted sites typically recommend tipping 20% of the original price which defeats the purpose of a discount.
So what does one do?
I went straight to my source. I reached out to Amanda of @KnockKnockBeauty. Amanda is a licensed medical esthetician with the personality of one of your best girlfriends. Amanda has seen it all. Literally. I knew I could ask her this touchy question and get an honest answer based off of her experiences. With her permission, I took screenshots of our conversation to share it with you.
While I hope you read the thread below, to quickly summarize, YES, you should tip and NO it is not mandatory.
Here’s a general scale for laser hair removal sessions:
Small areas: $10 - $20
Medium areas: $20 - $50
Large areas: $50 - $80
