Laser Hair Removal & Olive Skin v.1

Laser Hair Removal & Olive Skin v.1

I have been wanting laser hair removal for what seems like forever. It's not that there was a lack of places to go to or a deal to score, I was terrified by the potential scarring and dangers of using laser on the skin. I read so many articles that were meant to put me at ease, but I just couldn't bring myself to clicking submit your order.

I've probably abandoned hundreds of shopping carts at this point.

I finally came across Flash Lab Laser in Midtown, NYC on gilt.com and didn't think twice. Just kidding. I figured I would start with my underarms, that way no one will see my potential scars. Logical, right? I purchased a package for three sessions for my underarms ($295) with a free touchup within 14 days (of each session) if a spot was missed. Now, I know you can find cheaper packages elsewhere, but those super low prices don't sit right with me. The reviews for Flash Lab Laser were so positive. People were not only raving about their results, but they were also singing praises about the owners, Kelly and Jennifer.

Thursday was my first session and I was able to squeeze the appointment in during my lunch break. I received an automated email reminder and a personal call the day before the appointment. I was greeted by Kelly when I arrived and was offered champagne or water. I was on the clock, so I opted for some H2O. I then filled out a basic form while we talked through the process.

I was in the middle of telling Kelly how worried I was about scarring when she lifted her blouse and showed me her underarms. Smooth, bare, and no scarring. It was as if I was talking to one of my girlfriends. I laughed and then took off my sweater to show her my arms. I needed her to see the type of hair I was talking about. Dark hair on olive skin.

A couple of questions, laughs, and calculations later, I found myself swiping my credit card again. This time for my arms, upper lip, and side burns.

WTF was I doing purchasing more sessions before actually getting getting any laser done?! I don't know, but I felt 100% confident that I was making the right decision.

I was then greeted by Jennifer, who is also the lab technician, and was brought into another room. I sat on the chair and put on these special glasses to protect my eyes. Jennifer was super comforting and explained the process briefly and let me know that if at any time I needed a break, I just needed to let her know. I can't remember how we got there, but we started talking about Jersey City and I immediately felt a sigh of relief.

Since I went to the appointment just for my underarms, Jennifer had to shave the other areas. Using a medical grade shaver, she carefully shaved my sideburns, making sure they were even and not too harsh, and then moved down to my arms.

I wish I took a picture, but I was so in the moment it didn't even cross my mind.

The actual laser feels like a hot rubber band being snapped on the skin. Some areas hurt more than others, but it was tolerable, especially with the cool air that came out a split second before each zap. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes. I scheduled my next appointment and made my way back to work.

I had my hair up in a pony tail and thought for a second that I should put my hair down to cover any irritation, but I didn't have any that was noticeable. I didn't reapply my deodorant or makeup. I sat back down at my desk and typed away.

I rushed home and sat myself on my bathroom sink and examined my face in one of those 1000% magnifying mirrors. Besides some slight redness, my skin was fine. To be careful, I used a gentle face wash and moisturizer before going to sleep.

The next morning, the little irritation that I had was already gone. I picked up my hair in a pony tail and honestly, for the first time, I didn't think twice about my hairline.

Day after first session.

I'm in awe.
